A vital piece of equipment needed by Barry Dock RNLI Lifeboat crew has been replaced thanks to the fundraising efforts of Victoria Park Community Bingo Club.
The club has raised enough money through a recent function to fund a new ‘transponder’, which is a location device used in crew training.
The transponder was cut off and stolen off a training dummy that is used in search and rescue exercises.
The 120 member club, with an age range of 18 to 100, was able to raise £600 to help replace the equipment.
Colin ‘dapper’ Davies a retired crew member and Deputy Launching Authority was furious that such a callous act as stealing a bit of obvious RNLI equipment, that he decided to try and raise the money for the replacement.
Colin was very pleased and said that the fundraising by the Victoria Park Club was second to none and appreciated the generosity of its members.
Club members Mrs Kirke and Mrs Ryan presented Colin Davies with the cheque.
Gerry Adams, the Volunteer Press officer, said: ‘This was a fantastic effort and every one of the club members should be very proud of themselves.’
