Merthyr Tydfil’s Trading Standards Service is warning residents to be on their guard against unsolicited phone calls offering roofing work.
The Service has been contacted by residents, all over 60,complaining about extortionately overpriced work of a poor standard. Enquiries are on-going.
The Service is advising residents never to respond to unsolicited telephone calls or personal visits offering to do work. Always use a trader recommended by a friend or family and obtain quotations. Alternatively visit the Trust Mark website (www.trustmark.org.uk) or contact your local Trading Standards Service for advice.
Steven Peters, Head of Trading Standards states: “It is clear from the complaints that residents have paid over inflated prices for poor workmanship, exacerbated by the weather, with little or no prospect of redress”.
