One of the Swansea calendar’s most popular events of the summer helped raise almost £5,000 for the Lord Mayor’s charities.
The annual Lord Mayor’s Garden Party, staged every year at the Mansion House, is an opportunity for local people to meet the Lord Mayor and soak up the atmosphere at one of the city’s most picturesque locations.
And this year it was a complete sell out with more than 390 guests enjoying bucks fizz along with the ubiquitous strawberries and cream.
Together they helped raise much-needed funds for the Air Training Corps and SPLASH, a project aiming to build a swimming pool for children with special needs. Donations will also be made to a number of smaller charitable organisations.
Lord Mayor, Cllr Richard Lewis, said the event was such a success more tables and chairs had to be brought in. And he added: “The Lord Mayor’s Garden Party has had an enduring appeal down the years and a regular feature of the mayoral calendar. We are just £100 short of raising our £5,000 target for the event.
“I’d like to thank everyone who came and made it such a success for the charities I’m supporting this year. I’d also like to thank all those who supported the event with donations and raffle prizes as well Cwmtawe Strings, Tircoed Radio and the Cadets who gave their services for free to make the event a huge success.”
