A South African lorry driver has been sentenced to 16 weeks in prison following a guilty plea.
Anton Bosch appeared before Pwllheli Magistrates Court on Wednesday after being stopped by officers from the force Commercial Vehicle Unit on Tuesday 25 May, as he travelled along the A55 in Talybont, Bangor.
Bosch was arrested when he produced a false attestation letter- purporting to be on holiday between 7 March and 17 May.
He claimed he had not driven any goods vehicles during that period. However a roadside check revealed he had driven articulated goods vehicles in and out of the UK on at least nine separate occasions.
He was arrested for fraud and during interview admitted regularly driving whilst fatigued with as little as four to five hours rest.
The court agreed to a forfeiture order for the vehicle. Sergeant Ifan Jones of the Force Commercial Vehicle Unit said: “This is another success for the Commercial Vehicle Unit. It demonstrates that North Wales Police will not tolerate this sort of driving on the roads of North Wales.”
It’s all about addressing public concerns so we do target all commercial vehicles,” he said, explaining that the unit was established earlier this year, following public concerns about commercial vehicles travelling along the A55 to Holyhead Port.
