Police are appealing for witnesses after a lorry carrying Umbro sportswear was stolen and its driver threatened with a gun before being taken against his will.
At about 8 am today (Wednesday, February 17) the driver of a lorry, which was making its way to the Umbro factory in Deeside, stopped in Drome Road, Zone Three of Deeside Industrial Estate.
The vehicle – a black Volvo FH12 Sleeper cab, with ‘Ray Stuart Haulage’ on the sides written in gold and silver, was then attacked by three people, all believed to be male, wearing balaclavas, one of whom is believed to have had a gun.
The cab windows were smashed and the driver was forced into a black people carrier type vehicle.
The driver was let out of the vehicle in the Wigan area at around 9am and made his way to a local police station.
The burnt out lorry, minus its load, has since been found in the St Helens area.
Sergeant Craig Turner, who is leading the investigation on behalf of North Wales Police, said: “The driver was uninjured, but very shocked. Deeside Industrial Estate is a busy area, especially at this time of the morning, and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the vehicle or noticed anything suspicious.”
