Today (Friday 18 March), intrepid presenter Lowri Morgan starts an epic extreme challenge that will push her body to the limit in the Arctic Circle’s sub-zero temperatures.
The 6633 Ultra Marathon is the challenge facing Lowri. She must cover a distance of 350 miles over eight days and will be completely self-sufficient. This race is among the toughest on the planet and during her Arctic challenge, Lowri will battle temperatures of around -30˚C to -40˚C.
Only five people have finished the race since it started in 2007 and a woman holds the current record.
This is the last leg of a long and difficult twelve months of training for Lowri. In a bid to acclimatise to the conditions, Lowri has trained intensively, running distances of over 140 miles per week, experiencing the freezing temperatures of Sweden and getting used to the kit she’ll need.
S4C viewers can follow her journey, from the early days of training to the big race itself, in a four-part series Ras yn Erbyn Amser, starting Thursday 24 March.
