Major search for missing man in Harlech

A major search, using specialist dog units, is being held this weekend for a man reported missing from Harlech.

John Mitchinson, 54, from High Street, was last seen on Boxing Day and District Inspector Mark Armstrong said that they were becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare.

He said: “This Saturday and Sunday North Wales Police has organised a search operation in the Harlech and surrounding areas when 15 police officers will be joined by 50 members of the Mountain Rescue Team.

“We will also have a number of specialist search dog units, including the type used in Earthquake regions to search collapsed buildings and also air scenting dogs are being called in to assist.

“We have already held searches around the Harlech area where he was last seen with the assistance of the Mountain Rescue Team, search dogs and the police helicopter. However, there has been no trace of him in the area or elsewhere and we are now planning this major operation.

“We will be carrying out more house to house investigations and asking the public for their help by looking in their gardens and sheds.”

Mr Mitchinson is described as being 5ft 8 ins tall, balding, wearing a navy blue raincoat and could be wearing glasses.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts, who may have seen him or have any information to help locate Mr Mitchinson is asked to contact North Wales Police as soon as possible.
