Major works will start on Cardiff Castle Moat in early January.
Once the Christmas tree and Christmas lights have been removed, the schedule of work will begin and involve the dismantling and removal of the visitor reception building currently located on the Castle Moat in compliance with planning regulations.
Whilst this work is being undertaken, a temporary ticket office will be placed on the Castle Moat to enable visitors to buy entrance tickets to the Castle.
Modifications are being made to the Interpretation Centre within the grounds to incorporate the ticketing facility and also enhance the visitor experience on arrival at the Castle. It is anticipated the external works will take approximately three months to complete and will include the landscaping of the Castle Moat where the visitor reception building once stood.
Councillor Nigel Howells, the Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture said: “This work represents the final piece of the jigsaw in the Heritage Lottery funded Castle conservation project. The aspiration is to create a public space, integrated with the Castle Quarter, which signifies to visitors a sense of arrival at one of the UK’s most important historic sites.”
