Make it happen in 2010

Are you in a band that needs a music video – or would you like to work on or be in a music video? Now’s your chance – in the fifth year of the cutting edge MAKE IT! music/media project.

MAKE IT! is looking for two local band, or singer-songwriters, and a dozen young people aged 14-19 from Rhondda Cynon Taf who have an interest in or a flair for media, to take part in the 2010 Music Video Project.

Those selected will experience first-hand what it takes to work in the music and media industries.

Bands, singers and media participants entering must have a current original song recording in either English or Welsh, and must be available to attend evening and Saturday morning media workshops during January and February 2010 (one per week) as well as be available for the whole of February half-term to film the videos.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Youth Arts Project (part of RCT Cultural Services) are working with MAKE IT! on the project, which is funded through the 14-19 Learning Pathways Fund and Fframwaith.

Those chosen to be part in the 2010 MAKE IT! project will have their videos screened at a special showcase gig.

Previous winners of MAKE IT! include Porth Metal band Dead End, Rhondda band As Dreams Fail and all-girl rockers The Kix, whose videos were showcased at the 2009 Co-operative Young Filmmakers festival which took place at the prestigious National Media Museum in Bradford.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Cabinet Member for Culture and Recreation, Councillor Robert Bevan, said: “This project provides a fantastic platform for young people who want to progress in the fields of music and media. Our Youth Arts team are looking forward to working with more talented young people again next year.”
