Make your mark with a modern Welsh Cake

Getting creative in the kitchen could help one lucky person win a luxury break at the Dragon Hotel with their Welsh cake recipe.

The competition is being run by Swansea‘s Tourist Information Centre in the build-up to St David‘s Day.

People are asked to develop a recipe that reflects Swansea in 2010. Some of the ideas to have been suggested include chilli and chocolate, lychee and lime and laverbread and leek.

Entries have to be submitted by 5pm on Tuesday February 23.

Young people also have the chance to take Dewi the Dragon home by printing off an entry form and following him around Swansea, Mumbles and Gower. Their entries have to be submitted by Friday February 26.

Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “These competitions are wonderful for boosting patriotic spirits and add to what’s already a terrific line-up for St David‘s Week in Swansea.

“We’re really setting a benchmark for the celebrations and it will soon be time to reflect on everything that’s wonderful about Wales.”

Entry forms for both competitions are available by visiting www.visitswanseabay.com/stdavidsweek or from the Tourist Information Centre on Plymouth Street.

St David‘s Week in Swansea is the only event of its kind in Wales and lasts from February 22 to March 1.

Some of the highlights include:

* The Automatic at The Brangwyn Hall on Monday February 22. Some of their biggest hits include Monster and Steve McQueen.
