Residents across Cardiff are being urged to make sure they are registered to vote by the deadline of April 18.
With just weeks to go until Council elections take place across the country people who haven’t yet registered their right to vote are being reminded to make sure their voice is heard on a host of local issues which have a major impact on everyone’s daily lives.
Registering only takes a few minutes and will allow voters to have their say on the issues that really matter to them in the upcoming elections.
Not being registered to vote also effects your credit rating as, by law, the information on the electoral register must be provided to credit ratings agencies who will check it every time you try to open an account.
Returning Officer for Cardiff Jon House said, “Making the decision to register to vote is one way that people can make their voices heard on the issues they are concerned about.
“These are local elections which means that people have a chance to have a say about the provision of many important decisions affecting everyone’s daily lives including education, street lighting, waste collections, parks, social services, leisure centres and economic development.
“If you aren’t on the electoral register, you will miss out on the chance to have your say and make what you think counts.”
All the information people need to register, as well as voter registration forms can be found on the Electoral Commission’s website, www.aboutmyvote.co.uk
