Forestry Commission Wales’s youngest recruit proudly shows off her corporate “look” – at just over a week old!
Delighted mum Ffion Hughes’s colleagues in the Woodlands for Learning team swept into action as soon as news of Malan Haul’s arrival on 9 June reached them.
They took a white babygro and dyed it green, then added a Forestry Commmission Wales logo so that everyone would know that Malan was the newest addition to the team.
Ffion, who lives in Ruthin, said, “It was a really nice surprise, and Malan seems quite chuffed to be part of the team!”
Ffion is a familiar figure in north-east Wales through her visits to many schools and groups in the area since she joined the Woodlands for Learning team in 2002.
Over the past eight years she has introduced the benefits of learning in an outdoor environment to thousands of children who have discovered the educational value of our woodlands.
But since Malan’s arrival at Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan, Ffion and her partner Shane, who works for Keep Wales Tidy, have been on a steep learning curve themselves as they get to grips with parenthood.
Malan weighed in at 7lb 13oz and was two weeks overdue, but she’ll be making up for lost time as Ffion takes her out and about in her new designer babygro.
“She’s already been for a woodland walk in Bod Petrual and seemed to enjoy the experience,” said Ffion.
Sue Williams, head of the Woodlands for Learning team, said, “We thought it would be great to make Malan an honorary member of the team while her mother is away on maternity leave.”
Ffion’s area is being covered by Carolyn Threlfall, who is looking after the Forest School and FEI liaison work, and Sarah Collick, who will cover Welsh language delivery when she joins the team shortly.
