National Nature Reserves (NNRs) are the jewels in the crown of our natural environment – great places to visit and study nature. Increasingly, they are also becoming centres of excellence in terms of being managed in a sustainable way.
Fifty six of Wales’ 72 NNRs are managed by or managed in partnership with the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW), which has set itself an ambitious target to reduce its carbon footprint by 24% by 2012. The target calls for innovative thinking, much of which is being put into practice in the way NNRs are managed.
