Combined bus and rail ticket initiative between Aberystwyth and Machynlleth is now ‘live’.
This morning at Machynlleth Station, Glyn Davies MP joined representatives from a number of public transport companies to help launch an integrated transport initiative between Aberystwyth and Machynlleth.
The ‘Many Happy Returns’ / ‘Croeso Nol’ scheme means that passengers with valid return tickets between the two locations can choose to travel back to their original destination by either bus or rail, giving added flexibility, convenience and choice.
Facilitated by the Cambrian Railways Partnership (CRP), the scheme is a development of the original ‘2 4 1’ scheme launched by the CRP 2 years ago.
“The difference this time is that we’ve been able to get all companies who operate regular scheduled routes between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth together, effectively working in a true partnership with each other.
“Arriva Trains Wales, Arriva Bus Wales, Express Motors and Lloyds Coaches are participating in the scheme, and we hope that this added flexibility will make journey planning much easier for passengers.
“It is a good model for an integrated transport scheme, which means that passengers get a far better choice of journey options for their outbound and inbound journeys – in fact, over 30 permutations of journeys are possible, combining the bus and rail services.”
Passengers between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth now have a choice on how to travel back on their existing ticket, it’s effectively a ‘travel one way by rail, the other by bus’ opportunity, or vice versa.
To coincide with the launch of the scheme, a series of vibrant and eye-catching posters and timetables are being distributed at railway stations, buses and trains in the area.
