Listeners of the Pontypridd Talking Newspaper have a special festive treat this year, thanks to the staff at pupils at Pontypridd High and Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Mayor.
Students and staff at the school joined forces with Margaret Morris, editor of the Talking Newspaper, to compile a Christmas Special for listeners.
The tape includes a recording of the Pontypridd High Carol Concert, as well as readings of Christmas stories and poetry.
Pupils also invited Rhondda Cynon Taf Mayor Cllr Robert Smith to record a festive greeting for the newspaper, and he was delighted to oblige.
The Talking Newspaper has been running for 37 years and an edition is released every week, featuring stories from the Pontypridd Observer. Recorded at the University of Glamorgan by volunteers, the newspaper is sent to 150 homes across Taff Ely.
Mayor Cllr Smith said: “It was an honour to be invited to record a Christmas message for the listeners of the Pontypridd Talking Newspaper and I am very impressed by the efforts of students and staff at Pontypridd High, who have worked so hard to make this happen.
“The Talking Newspaper is an important way for those with visual impairments to stay in touch with local news and, thanks to the efforts of volunteers, 150 people across Taff receive a weekly update on what is happening in their area.”
The Pontypridd Talking Newspaper Christmas edition is out now and those who would like a copy can obtain one via the Pontypridd Observer offices or on 01443 665161.
