Monmouthshire County Council has unveiled the posters that it will use to promote the pre-Christmas free parking initiative in the county. This will be a repeat of last year’s successful free parking initiative, which gave a welcome boost to local shops and helped remind people of the county’s fantastic range of independent retailers.
Cllr Bob Greenland, MCC’s Cabinet Member for Modernisation, Enterprise & Communications said:
“We’re making these posters available to local businesses and will display them in council buildings. We’ll also promote the free parking days on our web site and through social media. This is an important initiative that underlines our commitment to support local businesses. I would urge people to come into our towns on these free parking days – as well as other times – to make the most of our fantastic choice of retail and food outlets.”
The free parking dates are as follows:
Abergavenny and Monmouth – Three Saturdays; the 3rd, 10th and 17th December.
Chepstow – Three Saturdays, the 26th November, 3rd and 10th December
The decision to repeat free parking this Christmas was made by the Cabinet member for County Operations, Cllr Bryan Jones as an Individual Member Decision on 14th September. He said:
“Free Parking was such a success last year that it’s right to repeat it. It did cost the council around £17,000 in lost revenue. But, of course, our towns benefited enormously from increased custom in shops and restaurants. And it reminded people what a brilliant range of shops we have in our towns.”
