An information tour aimed at providing advice to older residents has been held in Meirionnydd this week.
Staff from North Wales Police; North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and representatives from health and social care agencies have visited rural villages across the area with the specialist community safety bus as part of a tour to provide advice to older residents in hard to reach areas.
PC Dewi Wynne from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We’ve had an excellent week and we’ve engaged with numerous older people throughout Meirionnydd. We have issued advice such as how to beat the bogus caller and how to keep your home safe, and have also talked to the residents listening to their concerns.
“This has been a great fact finding trip which we can develop further for next year and beyond and it’s proved to be a very worthwhile exercise in engaging with older communities.”
Bob Gunton from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “Our Community Safety bus has been visiting locations across Meirionnydd throughout the week to give information and help to older residents. Staff from specialist agencies were on the bus giving free advice on health, social care, wellbeing, security and home fire safety.”
The bus has visited Rhydymain, Llanuwchllyn, Llandderfel, Dinas Mawddwy, Corris Isaf, Pennal, Bruncrug, Llwyngwril and Fairbourne. It has also been to Barmouth, Dyffryn Ardudwy, Harlech, Trawsfynydd, Gellilydan, Llan Ffestiniog and Tanygrisiau.
PC Wynne added: “These days highlight the benefit of partnership working and are also good opportunities for the elderly residents to meet their local officers.
“The days have proved to be very successful and the feedback received has so far been very positive with the older people requesting more of the same in future.”
The tour was arranged by the Meirionnydd Older People’s forum and supported financially by Gwynedd Older People’s Strategy.
