Merthyr Tydfil examinations arrangements due to severe weather

Merthyr Tydfil’s Local Education Authority (LEA) would like to advise parents/carers, students and teachers that all public examinations that are scheduled for Monday 11th January, 2010 are planned to go ahead at this time.

With the predicted bad weather forecast for Sunday 10th and Monday 11th January, a contingency plan has been put in place to ensure that the examinations are able to go ahead.

As a result of the bad weather and in the interest of public safety, examinations for Afon Taf High School, Bishop Hedley High School, Cyfarthfa High School and Penydre High School will now take place in one central location.

This temporary examination centre will be located at Merthyr Tydfil College in the town centre.

All pupils sitting a morning examination are required to be at the college by 8.30 a.m. in readiness for the 9.00 am examination. For those pupils sitting an afternoon examination, they will need to arrive at the college at 1.00 pm in readiness for the 1.30 pm examination.

Should any pupil experience difficulties in getting to the college site as a result of bad weather, please contact the emergency helpline number on 01685 385231. This should only be as a last resort.

This situation will be reviewed on Monday 11th January, in readiness for examinations scheduled for Tuesday 12th, Wednesday 13th, Thursday 14th and Friday 15th January.

Please be aware, should any of the above schools open as normal on Monday 11th January, the examination will still take place at Merthyr Tydfil College.
