Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council’s Leisure Services Department will hold its annual Christmas Lighting Ceremony at the forecourt of the Civic Centre on Friday 19th November 2010.
This FREE event will help you see in the festive season in style, as Father Christmas, His Worship the Mayor, Councillor Clive Tovey, and special guest star, Merthyr Tydfil’s very own Julien Macdonald, switch on the town’s spectacular Christmas Illuminations!
Accompanying our special guests for the illumination ceremony will be four inspirational young people, who this year have received Special Achievement Awards – Leah Jones winner of the Young Carer Award, Leond Dudley winner of the Outstanding Achievement Award, Jodanna Parry winner of the Learning Through Volunteering Award, Ashley Evans winner of the Outstanding Achievement and Nicola Park Awards.
Danter’s funfair, children’s entertainers and the Real Radio Road show will be present to keep the crowds entertained, and performances by a Choir made up of school children from around the County Borough and communal carol singing will help to you get in to the Christmas spirit.
The lighting ceremony begins at 5.00pm, with the official switching on of the inner town lights by Julien Macdonald at 6.00pm. The procession of light will leave from the Civic Centre once the lights have been switched on and make its way down to the Café Quarter via the Town Centre. Dante’s funfair will remain open until 8.30pm
