South Wales Police can confirm that the body discovered outside a property on Mount Pleasant, in Merthyr Vale, during the early hours of Friday morning (January 28) is that of 61 year-old local man Derek Mahoney.
Officers investigating his death are appealing to anyone who is aware of Derek’s movements between 6pm on Wednesday (Jan 26) and 7am on Friday (Jan 28) to contact them.
DCI Richie Jones from the South Wales Police Major Crime Investigation team, said: “Anyone who thinks they may have information they believe may be relevant should contact the inquiry team.
“We have a full team of officers who are working hard to try and piece together the circumstances surrounding Derek’s death.”

A 47 year-old man who is also from the local area has been questioned in relation to the incident, and is currently on police bail pending further enquiries.
