Midnight callout for Fishguard RNLI

Numerous reports by the public that flashing lights could be seen out at sea in Newport Bay resulted in the Fishguard RNLI all-weather lifeboat with seven volunteer crew aboard being launched by H.M. Coastguard at midnight on Monday 19 August.

Driving rain and low cloud resulted in a very dark night and poor visibility.

The lifeboat fired three parachute flares to aid their search and also made contact with a yacht which was underway in the area.

Meanwhile HM Coastguard’s cliff rescue team searched the coastline in the vicinity.

Both parties were stood down at 1am with no result and the reports were classified as false alarms with good intent.
