Commenting on recent long waits within A and E at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor and a subsequent apology from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, Shadow Minister for Health Darren Millar AM, said:
“While the health board’s apology is welcome, it will be of little comfort to those who have been kept waiting for up to 14 hours.
“This remains an unacceptable blunder that would have hit the elderly and vulnerable the hardest. I would now expect the health minister to look very carefully at the pressures blamed by the health board and measures put in place to make sure this does not happen again.
“Waiting times within accident and emergency departments have not been fully met in two and a half years and there are clearly widespread problems in this area.
“Labour is cutting the Welsh health budget by more than half a billion pounds over the next three years and our NHS faces the toughest funding settlement in the UK. I have no doubt that Labour’s slash and burn approach is adding unwarranted pressure.
“We now need an apology from the Welsh Labour Government for the impact their record-breaking cuts are having on frontline NHS services”
