Clwyd West AM Darren Millar is urging supporters of Ysgol Llanbedr to make their objections known to Denbighshire County Council before the February 25th deadline.

In spite of the efforts of local residents and councillors to overturn a Denbighshire County Council Cabinet decision to proceed with the closure of  the rural school near Ruthin, the local authority has now published a statutory notice to discontinue the school on the 31st August this year.

However the publication of the notice provides for a 28 day period for those with an interest in the school to send in their objections to the Council’s proposals. People therefore have until February 25th to get their views in.

Darren said:

“The fight to save Ysgol Llanbedr is far from over and I can’t stress enough to people how important it is for them to send in their objections to the local authority before the deadline. They may have already done this as part of the previous consultation, but these will not be counted as objections to the notice.

“I am determined to ensure that the views of pupils, parents, teachers and governors are not ignored by the Denbighshire County Council. In order to ensure that this is the case, it is essential that as many people as possible send in their objections to the statutory notice prior to the end of the objection period on February 25th.”

Darren added:

“Ysgol Llanbedr is a fantastic, unique school being the only rural faith school around Ruthin offering English medium education. It deserves to be saved and we must all continue fighting.

“The Diocese of St Asaph and the Governing Body of the school are convinced that there is a very strong case to save Ysgol Llanbedr and are working very hard to ensure that its future is secured and I am with them all the way. Local education authorities have a duty to listen and I’ll be doing everything I can to make sure that the views of both parents and pupils are properly considered before decisions are taken.”

People should send their objections in writing to: Jackie Walley, Head of Customers and Education Support, Denbighshire County Council
