Commenting on a Welsh Government agreement that will see striking doctors paid tomorrow (Thursday), Shadow Minister for Health Darren Millar AM, said:
“My heart goes out to the many Welsh patients who will have operations delayed or cancelled due to the strike.
“Many would have waited for very long periods of time and the government’s pay agreement just adds insult to injury.
“I am also concerned about the perception this decision conveys. Many may believe the Welsh Labour Government is encouraging strike action – for political reasons.
“While I welcome any moves to clear the ensuing backlog of work, taking up to 3 months to clear it will seem a very long time for patients who may have already waited for 36 weeks or more. This agreement should be looked at very carefully.”
