Commenting on figures showing a widening of the gap in life expectancy figures between the richest and poorest in Wales, Darren Millar AM, Shadow Minister for Health and Social Services, said:
“It’s become all too clear that Welsh Labour’s strategies to improve healthcare and prosperity simply aren’t working and with the NHS budget cuts this week their record looks set to get even worse.
“Some communities appear to be stuck in a rut and it is shameful that there have been no significant improvements in addressing health and wellbeing inequalities in the last decade.
“It is high time that work in this area is made a priority by the Welsh Government.
“Improving access to information on quitting smoking, healthy eating and physical activity needs to be stepped up a gear and targeted at those areas suffering the most.
“With the right strategies in place, we can close the gap and ensure that the health of our nation improves.”
