Changes to the flood warning service provided by the Environment Agency have been welcomed by Darren Millar AM.
The Environment Agency has announced today that the flood warning codes and messages the public receive through its free Floodline Warning Direct Service will change. The changes to the flood codes will enable people to know when floods are going to happen and to receive clear advice on what they should do.
Speaking following the announcement, Darren Millar said:
‘The recent bad weather has reminded us that the threat of flooding is never far away for those of us living and working on the coast in North Wales.
‘I understand from the Environment Agency that the code changes will be complemented by improved phone and text warning messages. People will get more local information such as when flooding is expected to start and the actions to take at each stage.
‘Having had personal experience of the floods in Towyn 20 years ago, I know only too well how devastating flooding can be. An improved flood warning system should help homes and businesses to take appropriate action.
‘A number of communities in Clwyd West are at risk of flooding and I would urge as many as people as possible to register with the Environment Agency as a Flood Warning Direct customer.’
