Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has welcomed the announcement that an influential Assembly committee will conduct an inquiry into the North Wales health service reviews.
The Welsh Assembly’s Health Wellbeing and Local Government Committee has announced it will hold an inquiry into the processes behind Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board’s on-going health service reviews. The Committee, which is chaired by Darren Millar, expects to complete its inquiry before Christmas.
Commenting on the announcement, Darren said:
‘The Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is currently undertaking reviews into the future of emergency general surgery services at Glan Clwyd Hospital and maternity and paediatric services across North Wales.
‘Some of the options being considered by the reviews have led to widespread public concern and there has been a great deal of criticism over the way in which these reviews are being managed.
‘I am pleased that the committee has supported the need for an inquiry into the reviews and trust that the decision will ensure that the public and other stakeholders are properly engaged in discussions about the future of health services in their locality.
‘I’m looking forward to chairing the Committee during what will be an interesting and topical inquiry.’
