Commenting on reports of Labour backbench opposition to the Health Minister’s plans for the NHS, Shadow Minister for Health Darren Millar AM, said:
“Those Labour Members who may be questioning their Minister’s woeful NHS plans must ask themselves what’s more important to them: representing those who elected them by fighting hospital closures and supporting local health services – or supporting a Welsh Labour Government that’s lost its way on the NHS?
“All elected representatives should put patients before politics when considering the future of the Welsh NHS and I hope that Labour AMs have the courage of their convictions to make a stand for hospitals and frontline services in their areas.
“It’s now clear that the First Minister is struggling to persuade his own backbenchers that the Welsh Government’s vision for the NHS is worthy of support. This should be a wake-up call for the Welsh Government to review its strategy for the health service and reverse its plans to axe hundreds of millions from the NHS budget over the next few years.”
