Commenting on the statement from the Welsh Labour Health Minister announcing three year funding for counselling services for patients with inherited bleeding disorders, Darren Millar AM, Shadow Minister for Health and Social Services, said:
“We welcome additional funding for counselling victims of contaminated NHS blood transfusions, but patients currently have no reassurance of funding beyond the current budget settlement.
“Patients who have been infected by contaminated blood products will have to live with the consequences for the rest of their lifetime, far beyond the commitment given by Ministers.
“Ministers now need to provide reassurances to patients and their families that counselling services will continue to be available and will not be hit by Labour’s NHS cuts.”
