Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has called for Ministerial intervention over the proposed closure of Kinmel Bay Library.
Conwy County Borough Council is currently consulting on the closure of a number of libraries across the area, including Kinmel Bay. Darren Millar is leading the campaign to save Kinmel Bay library and this week called upon the Welsh Heritage Minister in the Assembly to take action to prevent it closing.
Darren said:
‘We need to do everything we can to ensure that this library stays open – its closure would be a real blow for local residents.
‘I’m astonished that the local authority are intending to close it when book loans are increasing.
‘There is a need for guidance from the Minister in this area.
‘Kinmel Bay has been defined as a deprived area in terms of educational attainment and income levels. Libraries serving areas like this should receive extra protection from closure.
‘The Minister should take immediate action to ensure that such protection is in place for this important local facility.’
