Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has challenged the First Minister to improve neonatal care in North Wales hospitals.
Bliss, the charity for babies born too soon, too small and too sick, has warned that special care baby units at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and Wrexham Maelor Hospitals are understaffed and failing to comply with national standards due to the failure of the Welsh Government to fund sufficient posts.
Speaking after the exchange in the Senedd Darren said:
“Every child deserves the best start in life and it is crucial that our special care baby units are properly resourced to give vulnerable babies just that.
“Top class medical care is being compromised due to the failure of the Welsh Government to provide adequate funding to our precious NHS, which is facing the biggest cuts in its history.
“Sick babies should not pay the price for these cuts and the First Minister must ensure that funds to improve staffing arrangements at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and Wrexham Maelor are available as a matter of urgency.”
