A local AM has urged the Welsh Assembly Government to address take action to improve transport links between North Wales and Liverpool.
In the National Assembly for Wales this week, Darren Millar, AM for Clwyd West, called for an urgent debate on transport links between North Wales and Liverpool. Responding to his request, the Minister for Business talked about transport links in South Wales with no reference to North Wales.
Speaking after questions in the Assembly this week, Darren said:
‘I’m disappointed by the Minister’s response.
‘Transport links between North Wales and Liverpool need to be addressed. A direct train link between Liverpool and Llandudno would have real benefits for the economy in North Wales and also provide a significant boost to the region as a tourist destination.
‘However, it’s clear from the Minister’s response that North Wales is not even on the map as far as transport is concerned.
‘I have written to the Westminster Secretary of State for Transport, Philip Hammond, urging the Coalition Government to give urgent consideration to a direct train line between Llandudno and Liverpool. I’ll be pressing the Welsh Assembly Government to do the same.’
