Commenting on the publication of figures showing 82% of people in Wales would support a ban on smoking in cars when children are present, Darren Millar AM, Shadow Minister for Health, said:
“These figures show there would be considerable public support to take action to encourage the minority of parents who smoke in cars with their children to stop.
“Passive smoking is especially detrimental to the development of young children and in a tightly confined space such a car, even with open windows, the harm is exacerbated.
“I welcome the publication of this poll’s findings, which give the Welsh Government and other lawmakers a firm evidence base, with which to develop informed and considered policy.
“It is concerning that a fifth of smokers reported that they would flout a ban if it was made law, which suggests the education campaign about the dangers of smoking around children still has a long way to go.”
