Responding to today’s claims that councils face a massive repair bill due to potholes caused by the bad weather, Shadow Local Government Minister Darren Millar AM said:
“It is crucial local roads are safe for motorists and other road users.
“Local authorities now need to draw up action plans to address the situation by balancing financial pressures against maintenance needs.
“The Assembly Government must also accept its share of the blame for this situation, and for not making it a higher priority in the past.
“Their failure to address the backlog of repairs in recent years when money was available has made the situation much worse than it would have been otherwise.”
