Welsh Conservatives have said that the Assembly Commission spent over £80k on 3 days of events to mark the reopening of the Pierhead Building in Cardiff Bay.
The figures obtained by Shadow Local Government Minister, Darren Millar AM, give details of over £30k cost for staging the events with nearly £50k of ‘festival set-up costs’.
Commenting on the figures, Mr Millar said:
“It is outrageous that the Assembly Commission saw fit to fritter so much money on these events when the budgets for essential services across Wales are being slashed.
“Just a few weeks ago, we learned that the Commission had spent over £12,000 commemorating the reopening, including £1,991.63 on 5000 ‘beer mats’, but these new figures are staggering.
“It beggars belief that the Commission thinks it is acceptable to spend so much taxpayers’ money on events like these.
“Serious questions must now be asked as to how the Assembly Commission can become more accountable for the cash it spends.”
