Clwyd West AM Darren Millar AM has called for more support for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Speaking after raising the issue with Ministers in the Senedd this week, Darren, who also Chairs the Cross Party Group on the Armed Forces in the National Assembly for Wales, said:
“The untimely and tragic death of Dan Collins has reminded us all of the dreadful impact of PTSD on many former service men and women, and their families, in Wales.
“In spite of a report from an Assembly Committee published early in 2011, PTSD services are still difficult to access, awareness of the condition amongst GPs remains low, and there is insufficient co-operation between the Welsh and UK Governments to ensure that there is adequate provision of services in all parts of Wales – it simply isn’t good enough.
“The Welsh Government must give a greater priority to the delivery of the improvements in PTSD services in order that veterans can get the services that so desperately need.
“We owe it to those who sacrifice so much for our country, to provide them with the very best services and support.”
