Commenting on proposals by the Wrexham, Shropshire and Marylebone Railway to cease the Wrexham – London direct rail link from Friday, Shadow Minister for Transport Darren Millar AM said:
“The cancellation of this train service will come as a huge blow to regular users of this service.
“As well as being important for commercial reasons, the service provides an important link in the chain of North-South travel.
“The people of Wales will wonder why WAG continues to fritter away subsidies at a rate of more than £3k per day on the under-used ‘Ieuan Air’ link, while an essential rail service like this is falling by the wayside.
“The Minister needs to urgently look at this announcement and work with the train company to try and find a solution.”
