A U-turn by the Assembly Government’s Environment Minister over Denbighshire’s highly successful recycling scheme has been welcomed by local Assembly Member Darren Millar.
The Welsh Assembly Government had been planning to force Denbighshire County Council to scrap it’s highly successful “blue bin” recycling scheme, but following a highly successful campaign and representations from over 5,000 Denbighshire residents, it has today been announced that the Welsh Assembly Government have reversed plans to make the Council ditch the scheme.
Commenting on the announcement, Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar said:
“Figures showed that households in Denbighshire have among the highest reuse, recycling and composting rates in the whole of Wales. Denbighshire’s ‘blue bin’ recycling scheme was highly successful and residents benefitted from this simple and effective service.
“The Minister was interfering unnecessarily in decisions taken by local councillors. It was absolutely barmy to try and scrap this scheme.
“I welcome this U-turn by the Welsh Assembly Government and am pleased they have finally listened to the views of my constituents and given the scheme their backing.”
