The Welsh Government has been urged to address the democratic deficit in wind farm development in Wales this week.
Speaking in a Welsh Conservative debate on renewable energy, Clwyd West AM Darren Millar called for a review of the Government’s guidance on wind farm planning guidance to ensure that local communities’ views are taken into account.
Speaking after the debate Darren said:
‘It is clear that planning guidance for wind farm development is flawed and failing.
‘As a result of the guidance, developer interest has exceeded all expectations and we have seen the imposition of wind farms against the wishes of local people. This has had a devastating impact on some communities, which feel completely overwhelmed by this sort of industrialisation of the landscape in their area. I urged the Minister to address this democratic deficit.
‘We need moratorium on wind farm development in Wales until a thorough review of the planning guidance has been completed.’
