Trusty Sidekick Productions the company behind webseries The Splott Division have made another pilot: MIND GAMES. They will be premiering the short film on Weds 13th July in the Owain Glyndwr (St John St, Cardiff) at 8pm.
Tickets are £5 and all of the profits from the evening are going to MIND Cardiff, a charity which helps people to take control of their mental health. The short film will be followed by a pub quiz.
The short film is about the formation of a pub quiz team by a disparate group of individuals who are all trying to put their life back on track in some way. Their lives cross when they meet at MIND Cardiff, a charity which deals with mental illness. MIND GAMES is directed by BAFTA Cymru Winner David J Evans and Produced by Jonathan Ash and Tim Howard.
Their first webseries The Splott Division, which followed three Superheroes’ battle with redundancy in the wake of government cuts, was released Feb 28th 2011 and has since racked up 13,000+ hits on YouTube, as well as featuring on S4C, BBC Radio Wales, Nation Radio and Radio Cardiff along with features in The Guardian, South Wales Echo, and Buzz Magazine amongst others.
They tell us:
“They would like to thank IdeasTap for supporting the project after they were awarded with the IdeasTap Innovators Fund in February this year. The project could not have been possible without them.”
They continued:
“We hope to use this short film as a springboard for developing a light drama series concerned with dispelling myths and stereotypes associated with mental health. We tried hard in the development process to work worth professionals in the field and a number of the actors and production team come to the project with their own history of dealing with mental illness or caring for sufferers.”
