Mini rugby has been given a boost in Oakdale after the local club received over £800 in grant funds from Sport Wales.
Oakdale RFC applied for a Community Chest Grant with support from Sport Caerphilly, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Sport Development Team. They were awarded £802 which has helped fund essential WRU Level 1 Coaching Courses for their volunteer coaches.
The remaining funds were used to purchase new equipment, which has allowed them to create a new Under 7s team.
Martyn Cooke, the club’s coaching coordinator, said, “Sport Caerphilly’s help was integral to our application process. The grant has helped our club and community grow closer together.”
Cllr Dave Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, commented, “Providing opportunities for children to get involved in sport is very important to us in the council. We believe that the best way for people to be healthy is to live actively from a young age and I am so pleased that Sport Wales have been able to award this grant to a club striving to get give children that chance.”
