The Welsh Government’s Minister for Education and Skills, Huw Lewis, visited Rhyl High School today (Thursday) to see for himself some of the innovative work going on at the school.
Mr Lewis took the opportunity to speak with students and staff about the school and its ethos around enabling all children and young people to learn in a way that best suits them.
Mr Lewis visited a number of exhibitions and stands promoting projects going-on at the school:
- Work with Rhyl Football in the Community
- Pixel Alternative Education Project
- Army – Re-engage group
- Fishing
- Mechanics
- Balloon modelling
- 5X60 leisure project
- More Able and Talented
- Work with Chester University to prepare students for higher education
During the visit, the Minister also heard about plans to re-build the school.
Huw Lewis, Minister for Education and Skills, said:
“It’s been great to visit Rhyl High school today to see the good work which is being undertaken to support and inspire their learners. It’s important to us that schools are delivering high quality teaching and learning, and it’s clear that the school is committed to the educational futures of all of their pupils.”
Claire Armitstead, Head teacher of Rhyl High School said:
“We are delighted the Minister could visit us today, and see the real progress our wonderful students have made over recent years.
“We are proud of the curriculum that we offer at Rhyl High; it’s made a real difference to us all, and we are delighted to see our children and young people grow and flourish.”
