The Welsh Government’s Minister for Social Services and Public Health, Rebecca Evans has seen at first hand the work being done in Denbighshire to provide an integrated health and social care service to residents.
Rebecca Evans was visiting the Single Point of Access offices at Brighton Road, Rhyl today (Tuesday). The service has been developed to support residents and professionals working in the health and social care sectors in the county.
The service is run by an experienced team of staff from Denbighshire County Council, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and the third sector. Staff are able to provide information, advice and assistance about services available, with the aim of improving people’s health and well-being.
Councillor Bobby Feeley, Denbighshire’s Cabinet Lead Member for Social Care and Adults Services, said: “The Single Point of Access acts as the front door to services, to make sure that people receive the right care, in the right place by people who have the right skills at the right time.
“We are committed to enabling people to have a greater choice and control over their lives, to enable them to live as independently as possible. We do this through promoting preventative services in the community, making sure that residents are at the heart of conversations and discussions; focussing on the individual’s strengths to support and maintain independence and to provide a speedier response to residents.
“We were delighted to welcome the Minister to Rhyl today to hear for herself the great work going on in Denbighshire.”
Bethan Jones, Area Director – Central, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, said: “It’s vital that the Health Board, Local Authority and voluntary sector partners work together to provide local people with the support they need to keep healthy and to stay independent for as long as possible. Between us we provide a wide range of services that can help to achieve this and the Single Point of Access gives a simple way for people to find out about the health and social care and support that is available”.
Rebecca Evans, Minister for Social Services and Public Health, said: “I’m very pleased the Welsh Government has been able to support the Single Point of Access in Denbighshire through our innovative, multi-million Intermediate Care Fund.
“The service is proving to be a successful one-stop-shop, helping local people stay independent and get access to the most appropriate advice and support for their needs. It’s been excellent to see how this crucial service is improving people’s health and well-being.”
