Responding to news of a pilot scheme to fit CCTV cameras to protect NHS staff, Shadow Health Minister Andrew RT Davies AM said:
“The roll-out of this pilot project, while welcome, is long-overdue given that ministers first proposed it back in April.
“NHS staff face increased pressure at this time of year due to people drinking to excess during the party season.
“Violence and aggression of any kind is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated.
“Staff have every right to feel safe in their jobs and be confident that action will be taken against anyone who uses physical or verbal violence towards them.
“If this pilot project is a success it is vital ministers roll it out across Wales so that all NHS staff are protected.
“Ministers have been too complacent about the risk to NHS staff for too long. It was only in July that the Assembly’s audit committee highlighted a lack of urgency on the issue over the last three years.”
