The First Minister of Wales and the Minister for Heritage have wished good luck to Cardiff City and Cardiff Blues this weekend ahead of their big matches in the Championship Play-off Final at Wembley and the Amlin Cup Final in Marseille.
First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones, said:
“It’s a massive weekend for Cardiff football and rugby fans and I’d like to wish both teams all the best luck for their big matches.
“A place in the Premier League will bring massive financial rewards for Cardiff City and great benefits to the local economy as whole. Whatever happens on Saturday, the performance of the players and the management team this season is to be applauded in getting them this far.
“It’s also great to see Cardiff Blues become the first of the new regions to reach a European final when they take on Toulon in Marseille on Sunday. Let’s hope they can both make this an historic and memorable weekend for Cardiff and Welsh sport.”
Minister for Heritage, Alun Ffred Jones, added:
“This weekend sees the climax to a very exciting and successful season for the capital’s football and rugby teams. They have already rewarded their fans with many memorable performances this season and let’s hope they can both put up one more.
“The prestige, economic benefits and exposure brought by having a team in the Premier League will bring benefits to not only the team but the city of Cardiff and Wales as whole.
“A European Trophy for the Cardiff Blues will be fitting reward for the progress they have made in recent years and will also be a boost to Welsh rugby by providing all four regions a place in next year’s Heineken Cup.
“So I would like to congratulate both teams on their achievements so far this season and wish them both all the best for this weekend.”
