The senior management structure of Monmouthshire County Council is set to be shaken up as part of plans to improve the organisation’s leadership and save around £900k per year.
Cabinet met today (3rd March) to agree proposals for change to the senior management team and wider organisation.
Paul Matthews, Chief Executive of Monmouthshire County Council said:
“I am firmly of the view that Monmouthshire is a good to very good council with examples of outstanding practise. However, we need to move forward and position ourselves for the years ahead “
“The restructure will reduce the cost of senior management and ensure that we have the right structure in place to take the organisation through a period of increasing demands for local public services at a time when funding levels will be reducing. “
Leader of the council, Councillor Peter Fox, said:
“We need to be the right shape to meet the challenges ahead and we aim to make the public pound go a long way. We’re making efficiencies starting at the top and we think this is the right step for Monmouthshire.”
Paul Matthews said:
“We are being open about these changes and many colleagues have already offered me their views. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive whilst recognising the challenges that change on this scale can bring. We are consulting the whole organisation on the proposed changes with a view to Council adopting them on 23 March 2010.
Some of the proposed changes will see:
The Chief Executive taking a heightened managerial role leading on the agendas of law, democracy, modernisation, enterprise, financial and asset management.
A new position of Deputy Chief Executive responsible for running the whole authority functions of access, communication, policy, partnerships, performance improvement, workforce planning and development.
A specific directorate established to focus on regeneration and culture.
A number of Heads of Services posts are proposed for deletion with others created.
