Moelfre Lifeboat Day receives Silver award from the Anglesey tourism Association.

The award ceremony held recently at the Anglesey show ground saw the popular RNLI Moelfre Lifeboat day winning the silver award, with the Gold award going to the annual Anglesey show event.

The annual Moelfre Lifeboat Day is organised by a group of hard working and committed local volunteers. The 2010 event saw around ten thousand people visit the small village to enjoy the various stalls and activities.

Hundreds of people were escorted by the Moelfre RNLI lifeboat volunteer crew around the Moelfre RNLI lifeboat station and the Moelfre RNLI Lifeboat Robert and Violet.

Both The Moelfre RNLI Lifeboat and inshore lifeboat launched along with the RNLI capsize training inshore lifeboat which demonstrated the RNLI lifeboat capsize and re-righting procedures.

The crowds were then treated to a winching exercise between the Moelfre RNLI lifeboats and the RAF search and rescue helicopter from Valley, followed by a fly past by the Wales Air Ambulance which fortunately was in the area.

Moelfre RNLI lifeboat operations manager Rod Pace explains: ‘The 2010 event raised a magnificent £7,500 for the RNLI and is a really important event in the village calendar.

‘As a registered charity the RNLI relies on donations to enable its volunteer lifeboat crews to continue saving lives at sea. Everyone at the Moelfre RNLI Lifeboat Station are extremely grateful, and would like to congratulate all the carnival committee and volunteers on receiving this well deserved award, and for their dedication and hard work in organising such a successful and popular event.’

Elizabeth Hampson from the Moelfre Lifeboat day carnival committee adds: ‘We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who nominated us for this award and send our congratulations to the Anglesey Show and all the other winners and runners up of the various categories awarded on the night.

‘The success of Moelfre Lifeboat day is down to several important things, mainly to the public who have supported us over many years and the support of the Moelfre RNLI lifeboat crew. Thanks must also go to the villagers who diligently manage the great influx of people and vehicles on the day.’
