Mold’s Spring Clean event has been named a runner-up in the Tidy Wales Awards.
The awards give recognition to the hard work and commitment of voluntary groups, community groups and other organisations carrying out projects, which make positive physical environmental enhancements in local communities. The projects have been part or fully funded through the Welsh Assembly Government Tidy Towns Programme.
Mold Spring Clean was a huge success and was run in conjunction between Flintshire County Council, Mold Town Council and a vast number of voluntary groups. It was subsequently nominated in the Large Partnership Award.
Large areas of the town were cleaned up as part of the event in April. Over 360 bags of rubbish were collected, planters were made over with new shrubs and the bus station and car parks refreshed, footpaths steam cleaned, chewing gum removed and litter picking along public footpaths.
Over 200 people took part in the event, which was supported by many local businesses, and a second is planned for 2010.
