Plaid Cymru’s Finance spokesperson Chris Franks met with Deputy First Minister and Party Leader Ieuan Wyn Jones at the Senedd to discuss capital investment in schools in Penarth and Cardiff.
Plaid AM Chris Franks said:
“I discussed a number of issues with Plaid Leader and Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones. On education I asked about money that was available for schools in Cardiff and Penarth. In the west of our capital school children are packed like sardines in their buildings at Ysgol Treganna in Canton. Cardiff Council has an ambitious scheme to ensure that there are proper facilities for pupils and staff fit for the 21st century. The current situation is simply unacceptable.
“I raised the issue of funding for the Penarth Learning Campus that would be an impressive way of providing top quality buildings for learners and teachers alike in Penarth. This would be a large investment in the future of children in the Vale of Glamorgan, providing not only for those at St Cyres but also for pupils at special schools in Penarth.”
“With the massive cuts in Welsh government funds by the UK government many school projects are now at serious risk. The conditions at St Cyres are dreadful. The staff and pupils have rallied around magnificently. We must continue to battle for the necessary investment at the school.”
