Monmouthshire County Council has announced a new partnership with Whitewall Kennels, Magor. Whitewall will now act as the council’s appointed dog collection service so if a member of the public sees a stray dog they can contact the kennels on 01633 644705 and they will seize the dog on behalf of the council. This service is available Monday to Thursday 9am-5pm and Friday 9am-4.30pm. If a dog is found out of these hours the dog can be taken to the kennels directly by a member of the public or alternatively call the council’s out of hours service for advice.
The council and Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity also urge the public to take measures to prevent your dog from straying in the first place.
Sian Edwards, Campaigns Manager from Dogs Trust says:
“It is vital to collar and tag your dog. Not only is it a legal requirement but it is also the easiest way for a dog to be reunited with his owner should he stray. We also urge people to get their dog microchipped and neutered. Dogs Trust is also offering dog-owning Monmouthshire residents the chance to have their dogs neutered and micro-chipped at the same time for just £30 – just contact your local vet for information.”
